Long recognized as a national leader in aquatics, the YMCA has something for everyone! From swim lessons to recreational swim to aquatic fitness, YMCA aquatic programs develop the whole person - physically, mentally and spiritually - while providing an excellent opportunity for youth and adults to make new friends, and most importantly, to have fun! The Pawtucket Family YMCA meets the standards to comply with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. The safety of children and families in our pool is a priority to our YMCA.
Parent/Child and Preschool Swim Instruction: Preschool swim lessons at the YMCA are available for children ages 6 months and older. We offer a progressive swim program where each child moves to more advanced skill levels at his/her own pace. We strongly encourage parental participation for increased effectiveness.
Youth Swim Lessons: Youth swim lessons at the YMCA are available for children aged six years and older. Skill levels are carefully designed to give each child the opportunity to advance in five areas: personal safety, stroke development, personal growth, water sports and water rescue. Children will focus on a specific swim stroke each week and help to develop the necessary skills for swimming.
Adult Swim Instruction: Small class sizes are designed for individuals who are unable to swim and/or are fearful of the water. Water familiarization and basic swim techniques are the components of adult swim instruction. Pawtucket Family YMCA has a new technique clinic that is designed for adults who are looking to refine their strokes.
Recreational Swim: Recreational swim is available for youth, teens and families who wish to participate in non-lap swim activities, as well as to relax and enjoy the pool.
Aqua Fit: Aqua fit is a low-impact, energizing workout class that uses aqua bells and foam noodles to improve muscle tone and increase endurance, strength and flexibility. Men and women of all ages and fitness levels can enjoy all the benefits of this low impact aerobic exercise. We have found that working out in the water is a great way to gain cardiovascular stamina and build tone!
Lap Swim: Lap swimming is a great cardiovascular workout and one with measurable results. The YMCA offers over 30 hours of lap swimming each week at a variety of times each day. Daily schedules include early morning, afternoon and evening lap swim times.
Special Populations: The Pawtucket Family YMCA pool is now handicap accessible, making it possible to offer programs to all people interested in pursuing an active experience in the pool.
